Student Athlete of the Month

December 2020: Erica Selfridge

Clarion Rehab Services and CHAMP (Clarion Hospital Athletic Medicine Program) are pleased to announce Erica Selfridge as December’s Student-Athlete of the Month. Erica is a senior at Clarion Area High School where she participates in volleyball and basketball and is a member of choir. Erica’s hobbies include shopping, spending time with her pets, puzzles, and watching TV.

Erica’s future plans are to go to college and play volleyball at a college/university yet to be decided. Her favorite sports memory is “winning the state championship and celebrating with the community.” Erica states the most inspiring people in her life are “my coaches because they have shaped me not only on the court, but to be a better person.” Erica would like to give her thanks for the athletic opportunities she has had and for her teammates who she feels she could not have achieved anything without.

November 2020: Braden Rankin

Clarion Rehab Services and CHAMP (Clarion Hospital Athletic Medicine Program) are pleased to announce Braden Rankin as November’s Student-Athlete of the Month. Braden is a senior at Clarion-Limestone High School where he participates in cross country, basketball, track and field, and is a member of Bible Club, National Honors Society, and Math Team. Braden is the Senior Class President and is also an Eagle Scout of Troop 51. His hobbies include running, hunting, camping, and spending time with his family. 

Braden’s future plans are to run cross country at the college level while pursuing a degree in Civil Engineering at a college/university yet to be decided.  His favorite sports memory is “running at the State Championship Cross Country meet in Hershey last year.” Braden states the most inspiring people in his life are “my parents because they taught me to have a strong work ethic and Christian values.”

​Clarion Rehab Services and CHAMP (Clarion Hospital Athletic Medicine Program) are pleased to announce Koby Buzard as October’s Student-Athlete of the Month. Koby is a senior at Keystone High School where he participates in cross country, football, soccer, and track.  He is also a member of piano club. His hobbies include running trails, working out, and hanging out with family and friends. Koby also works for Myers Water Wells assisting to dig water wells, and over the summer lifeguards for TTSR.  
Koby’s future plans are to attend a college close to home to major in business, and in the future he hopes to start his own business. Koby also plans to continue running cross country and track in college. His favorite sports memories are “in 10th grade when he PR in the 800 and 1600 at Oil City, and qualifying for States a second time.” Koby states, the most inspiring people in my life are “his grandpa Terry and Grandma Norma who watch every race from above.” Koby would also like to thank his dad “for always having my back through the bad times and pushing me to both a better runner and person.”

September 2020: Brenna Campbell

​Clarion Rehab Services and CHAMP (Clarion Hospital Athletic Medicine Program) are pleased to announce Brenna Campbell as September’s Student-Athlete of the Month. Brenna is a senior at Clarion Area High School where she participates in volleyball and softball.  She is also the President of National Honors Society, and Treasure of Student Council. Her hobbies include lifting, painting, baking, and water skiing . Brenna also works babysitting for local families. 
Brenna’s future plans are to attend McDaniel College to continue her academic and athletic career. She plans to major in International Business and Sports Management with a minor in foreign languages.  Her favorite sports memories are the “Bishop Carroll game my junior year of volleyball and the Maplewood volleyball game.” Brenna states, “the most inspiring people in my life are my parents because they push themselves every day to help people and provide me and my sisters with a beautiful life. Also, the past Clarion volleyball players inspire me to be better every day . I push myself to compete with their awards and victories.”

SAOY '19-'20: Mitch Knepp

Clarion Rehab Services and C.H.A.M.P (Clarion Hospital Athletic Medicine Program) are pleased to announce Mitch Knepp as their Student-Athlete of the Year for the 2019-2020 school year. Clarion Rehab and C.H.A.M.P contract certified athletic trainers to 4 local school districts including Clarion Area, Clarion-Limestone, Keystone, and North Clarion. Each month throughout the school year, the C.H.A.M.P Athletic Trainers nominate one of their current athletes for the Student-Athlete of the Month. At the end of the school year, one of those monthly winners is named Student-Athlete of the Year. The winner must not only excel in athletics, but also in the classroom and community. Clarion Rehab Director of Sports Medicine Kari Best states “Each year our job of selecting winners gets harder because there are so many great nominations and this year, though cut short for these students, was no exception. Mitch demonstrates exactly what we want in our student athlete of the month and year winners. He is hard working, excels in the classroom and the community, is a good teammate and classmate, and will go far in his future endeavors.”

Mitch was a senior at Clarion-Limestone High School this year where he participated in
football, basketball, and track and field. He was also a member of the National Honor
Society and has participated in Academic Decathlon and Academic Sports League. His hobbies outside of school include attending Cornerstone Church Youth Group.

Clarion Rehab owner Seth Babington states, “Mitch is going to do well in life. He is pleasant, hard-working and well rounded. He exemplifies what the C.H.A.M.P. Student-Athlete of the Year award is all about. He excelled in the classroom and he performed well in a variety of athletic activities. We wish him the best.” Clarion Limestone’s athletic trainer Emily Lubas states, “Mitch is such a well rounded student and athlete. He has been a pleasure to work with over his high school career and will succeed in anything he plans to do in the future.” Mitch states that the most inspiring person in his life is his “dad, because he has shown him the value of hard work.”


​Mitch’s future plans are to attend Clarion University for a major in the business field.

Mitch with a five hundred dollar scholarship. They would like to congratulate Mitch
Knepp, and all the 2020 graduates in their achievements and wish them the best in
their future endeavors.

February 2020: Troy Johnson

Clarion Rehab Services and CHAMP (Clarion Hospital Athletic Medicine Program) are pleased to announce Troy Johnson as February’s Student-Athlete of the Month. Troy is a senior at Keystone High School. He participates in golf, basketball and baseball, and is a member of the National Honors Society and Concert Choir. His hobbies include spending time with his friends and playing sports. Troy also works for Ritner Pools and Spas.
Troy’s future plans are to attended college for Plastics Engineering Technology or Engineering at a school to be determined. He hopes to continue his basketball career at the school he chooses to attend. His favorite sports memory is “winning the KSAC Championship this year.” Troy states the most inspiring people in his life are “my mom, dad and sisters, as well as my coaches that have all inspired me throughout my life.”

January 2020: Nicholas Frederick

​Clarion Rehab Services and CHAMP (Clarion Hospital Athletic Medicine Program) are pleased to announce Nicholas Frederick as January’s Student-Athlete of the Month. Nicholas is a senior at Clarion Area High School where he participates in cross country and basketball. He is also a member of National Honors Society, robotics, Vice-President of Student Council, Vice-President of the Senior Class, Science Olympiad, math competition team, and volunteers at Immaculate Conception Church. His hobbies include sports, being outdoors, cooking, and playing video games. Nicholas also works for C&A Trees.  
Nicholas’s future plans are to attend Penn State Behrend to major in Engineering, “then move to Colorado and get rich”.  His favorite sports memories include either “little league baseball with all of my closest friends at the time, or going to states with my cross-country team this past fall.” Nicholas states the most inspiring people in his life are “Tom Lewis, who has been an assistant basketball coach all four years I’ve been in high school, or my parents who always push me to do my best.”

December 2019: Isaak Jones

​Clarion Rehab Services and CHAMP (Clarion Hospital Athletic Medicine Program) are pleased to announce Isaak Jones as December’s Student-Athlete of the Month. Isaak is a senior representing Keystone High School. He participates in football and basketball, and is a member of the school choir, select ensemble, and school musicals. Isaak is also a participant of TeenPact Leadership Schools in Pennsylvania and was selected to be a staff member, and is a member of Grace E.C Church praise band. Isaak has also earned his Eagle Scout, and helped to raise over $27,000 to build a pavilion for the Cancer Center at the Clarion Hospital. His hobbies include spending time outdoors, hunting, weightlifting, playing his guitar, and working on skills to better his sports. Isaak is a lifeguard at the Clarion Borough pool and referees for the flag football league as well. 
Isaak’s future plans are to attend Grove City College for Conservation Biology and plans to play football for them.  His favorite sports memory is “helping my football team to a winning, record-breaking season, and winning the south conference title in 2019.” Isaak states the most inspiring people in his life are “my parents because they taught my siblings and I good Christian morals and work ethics growing up. They have been my biggest inspiration.”

​Clarion Rehab Services and CHAMP (Clarion Hospital Athletic Medicine Program) are pleased to announce Mitch Knepp as November’s Student-Athlete of the Month. Mitch is a senior at Clarion-Limestone High School where he participates in football, basketball, and track and field. He is also a member of National Honors Society and Academic Decathlon, and attends Cornerstone Church Youth Group.  His hobbies include video games, reading, hunting, and sports. Mitch also does cleaning and maintenance for Clarion Ford. 
Mitch’s future plans are to attend Clarion University for an undecided major.  His favorite sports memory is the “co-op with Clarion Area and having a great season together.” Mitch states the most inspiring person in his life is “my dad, because he has shown me the value of hard work.”

October 2019: Nathaniel Lerch and Maddie Schill

​Clarion Rehab Services and CHAMP (Clarion Hospital Athletic Medicine Program) are pleased to announce Nathaniel Lerch and Maddie Schill as Co-Student Athletes of the Month for October. 
Nathaniel is a senior at Clarion Area High School where he participates in cross country and track. He is also a member of marching band, concert band, district and regional band, district jazz band, pit band, pep band, Student Council and National Honors Society. Outside of school he enjoys swimming, running, playing soccer, traveling, and playing the piano and violin. Nathaniel works as a dinner pianist and a soccer referee. 
Nathaniel’s future plans are to attend an undecided university to become a Veterinarian. He states his favorite sports memory is “winning the District 9 Championships because I finally found my summer training showing itself in my races. It was a grueling finish, so when I won, everyone went crazy and it was awesome.” Nathaniel says the most inspiring people in his life are his mom and dad. “Mom has inspired me to run despite whatever physical pain I experience, and dad has inspired me to shoot for the stars and expose myself as much as possible.”  He also includes “running may not always seem rewarding, but it always defines who you are. Persevering through pain in order to refine your abilities demonstrates true grit and dedication.”
Maddie is also a senior at Clarion Area High School where she participates in volleyball. She is also a member of Student Council, Treasurer of National Honor Society, and participates in the school musicals. Outside of school she enjoys hanging out with friends and family, traveling, hiking, skiing, participating in club volleyball, and attending mission trips. Maddie works at Pizza Pub. 
Maddie’s future plans are to attend Duquesne University to become a Physical Therapist. She states her favorite sports memory is “making it to the State Semifinals with my team, and seeing the team grow throughout the season.” The most inspiring people to her “are the people I met in Jamaica on my mission trip because they are the happiest people I’ve ever met even though they have nothing.”
